Government urged to support activities of advocacy working groups on child spacing.

Government has been advised to continue supporting the activities of Advocacy Working Groups AWG on child spacing activities.

The advice was given by Mr Yusuf Nuhu of Pathfinder International Nigeria at a two-day close-out meeting of SAIF Advocacy in Gombe.

Mr Yusuf said as the AWG in Gombe state are graduating under Advance Family Planning project of Pathfinder International there is a need for Gombe support to the activities of the AWG.

He added that the objectives of the support is to ensure government and stakeholders’ contribution to the sustainability efforts of the Advocacy Working group.

Yusuf acknowledged the role of the media in advocacy on child spacing especially at the peak of COVID-19.

Also speaking at the meeting, Mallam Alhassan Yahaya of the SAIF Advocacy Foundation said the there is need for activities of AWGs to be government driven sustainability.

He highlighted the successes of the group in Gombe towards promoting child spacing activities that reduced maternal mortality rate.

Alhassan Yahaya, while saying the the AWG has worked towards the creation of a budget line for child spacing activities in the state, appealed for fund release for more positive results.

He appreciated Pathfinder International for building the capacities of CSOs and the media in advance family planning.

At the end of the meeting there were commitments from stakeholders,which include state primary health care development agency, state budget office, Gombe state agency for the control of aids as well as the media for continued support in child spacing activities in Gombe state.
